The county has more than 1,500 km of marked hiking trails. The area is crossed by the most popular hiking trail, the National Blue Trail, and several trails for cycling as well. We can find 4 special forest schools, several outlook towers, the completely renewed Somoskő tour center and game park, but you can also visit the favorite starting points of the hikers, the Forest leisure park of Diósjenő and the Hiking center of Szendehely-Katalinpuszta.
Besides the treasures of nature the traditions of the Palóc culture, the historical castle ruins and the geological memories of the history of Earth also attract visitors.

The Novohrad–Nógrád Geopark unites the historical traditions of the Palóc land, its landscapes, its geological-topological values and communities on both sides of the Slovakian-Hungarian border. The geopark consists of 28 towns and villages of the Slovakian side and 63 on the Hungarian.
It became the part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks network in 2010.The ancient, romantic village of Hollókő, which is part of the world heritage, and its surrounding is a part of it, just as many forts in picturesque landscape and several spectacular geological formations as well.
